We'd heard rumors about the wild black mustang out at Top's. And I admit that I did sneak down to her stall while nobody was looking with the intention of forming a special bond with a wild horse. The girl came up to me and snorted and that was that. I quickly remembered that I was not the horse whisperer and tip-toed out of the barn.
Yesterday, Walt got her out to do some ground work. She is still a bit jumpy, understandably, being used to looking out for herself. That snorting she does is a way of smelling out predators. She is also very attentive and sure footed. That will translate to good movement later on. While we were out walking around the pasture Walter kept saying the horse might still have 'the spirits' with her and would probably lead him to an arrowhead. I silently nodded my head thinking 'oh sure.' Walter found his arrowhead two minutes later. -Lindsey For more information please e-mail [email protected] this week Yesterday was Bella's first ride outside the round pen. She went on the trail with no problems. She's turning out to be such a good horse. On another note, Walter showed me this the other day. I don't know why but if you're anything like me it will probably put you in a trance. Happy weekend to you!
-Lindsey Hello! Welcome to our website! This will be a place to see what's goin' on around here, book appointments, read about horse training, flintknapping and primitive skills, and see new horses for sale. We'll also have flint and arrowheads in our shop in the coming weeks. So keep a look out for that!
Today was Bella's second day of riding after a week of ground work and getting comfortable with the saddle. She goes forward very easily. All it takes is a little kiss. Today, we're working on bending her body and making sure she's flexible. We want for her to bend around the legs and move off the legs. Bella is already really soft and moves well off the reins. So today we might work a little on backing up. But we want to make sure she has the idea of moving forward very well. If you teach a horse how to stop and back up too early they tend to try to do it whenever you ask them something to do new, so it's best to wait a a little while until teaching them to do it. -Walter |
